My name is Raymond Tonks I am writing to you with an idea that I believe has the potential to significantly improve a small but important part of the UK’s public infrastructure.
I have developed a unique and original design for a manhole cover that aims to address several long-standing issues associated with current designs, such as public safety, maintenance efficiency, durability, and cost-effectiveness.
My concept introduces a new approach that could reduce accidents, minimise unauthorised access, and lower long-term maintenance costs for local authorities.
This design could be of national interest if supported at the right level, particularly as the UK looks for practical, innovative solutions that improve public safety and deliver better value for taxpayers.
While I am not currently in a position to bring this idea directly to industry or government departments due to lack of investment and funding.
I would greatly appreciate your advice or support on how such an innovation could be reviewed, protected, or brought to the attention of the appropriate bodies.
I would be very grateful for any guidance you could offer, such as utility companies who would be prepared to listen for the opportunity to share further details of the design should this be of interest.
I have patented my design and concept for eight years now
which was renewed on the 13/03/2026.
I have worked along side with Trevor Codner at the NBI Wolverhampton University which have helped me develop a 3D Animation and 3D Print for presentation purposes to give you a insight how my design works.
